The Astrid Thalheimer Memorial Vocal Scholarship

Presented by The A Cappella Singers of Metrowest Boston

The Scholarship program is inactive at this time.

The Astrid “Sandy” Thalheimer Vocal Scholarship was established in our founder’s name.  This scholarship is given to a female student going on to a college or university to study voice. The scholarship is awarded occasionally in the spring.

Astrid Thaiheimer
Astrid “Sandy” Hanson Thalheimer was born on New Year’s Day in Springfield, MA in 1931. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and attended Boston University, where she studied in the graduate School of Psychology and later received instruction in music conducting. She was involved with the Handel & Haydn Society, The Masterworks Chorale, and the Master Singers.

In 1963, Sandy founded The A Cappella Singers women’s choral group in Metrowest Boston, where she increased membership to more than fifty women at one point, and performed countless concerts. She later served as music director for two local area churches. Always intellectually engaging, spirited, opinionated and caring of others, Sandy will be missed and fondly remembered forever.
